Last week McDonald's Australia allegedly created a limited number of special edition PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers. Each would be custom made to include illustration of burgers and fries all set alongside a white, red, and yellow color scheme. The original story, by Press Start, says that McDonald's Australia was going to give away 50 of these controllers in celebration of the 50th birthday of McDonald's being around in Australia.

Well the jokes on you, because McDonald's apparently never got Sony's permission for this. A spokesperson for the company says that "Sony PlayStation has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional materials related to the proposed Stream Week event and we apologize for any inconvenience caused." The promotional week has been postponed and the DualSense controllers "will not be included in the giveaway."

But wait, this story gets better.

Apparently, the McDonald's DualSense controller was never actually meant to be advertised in the first place. This controller was an internal concept that never actually left the planning phase. McDonald's Australia told IGN that "the image was provided to media in error and there is no commercial relationship between McDonald's Australia and Sony PlayStation."

Maybe it'll actually happen one day, but that day is not today.
