  • Gamers Across The Board Look For Common Characteristics For A Positive Playing Experience: What Are They

Considering how many different types of games are popular in this day and age, it’s quite hard to find the common denominators that determine a great game regardless of its genre, platform, or main theme. People love video games for a wide variety of reasons, and their expectations vary from one group to another. Still, there are some characteristics that are positively received by the players of all ages, skill levels, or niche interests. Let’s examine some of those universally praised elements of gaming.

    Visual Engagement

Vast majority of game-relevant information is conveyed through visual means. There are countless ways to translate game action into visible content of the screen, and it’s imperative to pick those that fit the mind-set of a typical player. Effective visuals directly affect playability, and the most commonly used commands must be easy to discover and easier to deploy at will.

The outcomes of player’s actions should also be represented on the screen in order to close the feedback loop properly. Finally, the game requires fun, colourful backgrounds, NPC characters, and animations to keep things interesting and maintain the iron grip on the player’s attention.

    Personalisation

While the game needs to have a clear visual identity, it also must leave some space to tinker with how things look. Players love customising everything from user avatars to weapons and other gear, even if there is no functional advantage. Certain game genres like RPGs or MMOs blend character differentiation with core gameplay, so your choices made early in the game determine the paths you are likely to take later. Putting the power to decide into the player’s hands is generally a good idea, although it takes a lot of planning to ensure every choice leads to meaningful outcomes.

    Strategic Decision Making

Introducing multiple paths to victory and allowing each player to seek out the best one is a great way to add strategic depth and give the game some staying power. Players enjoy a good challenge, and having the freedom to pursue their own strategies can feel quite satisfying… at least when it works. Games that feature key decision trees tend to be harder to master, so they are generally not recommended to beginners or casual players. On the other hand, they tend to have higher retention rates, meaning that players who learn the system tend to stay loyal for longer.

    Easy-to-Collect Rewards

Everybody needs a little encouragement along the way, which is why the best game designers like to reward players for completing minor actions. The value of the rewards doesn’t have to be too significant, but their easy availability provides the pull and keeps the player focused on his next objective. Players across the genre spectrum love those little boosts – just look at a few Planet 7 Casino’s reviews and you will see that bonuses and free spins are among the most beloved features. Availability of perks also helps the players get up to speed and start playing at a more advanced level sooner.

    Social Features

Gamers may not be party animals, but they sure like to brag about their exploits to their friends online. For this reason, almost every successful game launched over the past decade has included at least some mechanisms for connecting to other players, ranging from chatting to item trading. Some games let players join teams that compete together, or work collaboratively to unlock higher levels or defeat powerful bosses. Social dimension also helps to attract new players through direct invitations and to spread awareness about the game in the wider online community.
