Epic Games have acquired Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Mediatonic, the development studio behind Fall Guys. Mediatonic claims that not much will change for Fall Guys, at least in the short term. That means that the game will still be available for purchase, for now, through Steam. Of course, we all know what happened the last time Epic acquired a game studio...

Fall Guys was a major flash in the pan release that saw concurrent players on Steam surpass 100k in its release month. Its growth was hastened along by a massive amount of popularity on Twitch. Since then, the game's popularity has seemingly fallen off a cliff. However, Mediatonic has still supported the game with new content, DLC, and even game modes.

Mediatonic says that things will remain the same as they are... for now. They still plan to sell Fall Guys through Steam and they still plan to bring the game to the Switch and the Xbox platforms. They stopped just shy of announcing that the game would be going free-to-play, stating that they have "nothing to announce right now."

This move to Epic will actually provide a couple of benefits to the studio. Mediatonic hopes to incorporate some features found in Fortnite and Rocket League to Fall Guys. These features include crossplay, squad vs. squad modes, and more.

Though Fall Guys' popularity isn't what it used to be, Mediatonic has been around for about 15 years. They probably were going to keep making games after Fall Guys regardless, now they'll be making games for Epic and, presumably, the Epic Games Store.

Of course, a move like this wouldn't be complete without everyone's favorite CEO, Tim Sweeney.

"It’s no secret that Epic is invested in building the metaverse and Tonic Games shares this goal. As Epic works to build this virtual future, we need great creative talent who know how to build powerful games, content and experiences." - Tim Sweeney, Epic Games Founder and CEO.
    ... Building the metaverse? Really?

FUCK! STEAM REJECTED MY REFUND DEMANDS!

(To nobody's surprise given how long I've had these games. And yes, I said demands. Rocket League and Fall Guys were requested on the same day.)

Around 16% of all Epic employees laid off.

Epic Games is laying off around 16% of all employees, as confirmed today by Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney. This 16% comes out to roughly 900 employees that have been laid off from the company that is responsible for Unreal Engine, Fortnite, and the Epic Games Store.

In Sweeney's letter to Epic employees, he says, "For a while now, we've been spending way more money than we earn." He blames Fortnite's push towards...

Accidental Fall Guys Purchases Being Refunded Following Backlash
    by Shawn Zipay
A bug caused several players to accidentally purchase premium cosmetic items.

Fall Guys recently made a very successful transition from a paid title to a free-to-play game for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC platforms. The jump to F2P didn't come without a few bumps though. The servers struggled to meet the increased player demand in the days following the game's release and more recently a bug popped up that caused some players to unintentionally buy items from the store instead...

    Google Countersuing Epic Games
    by Shawn Zipay
    Fight fight fight.

Google is now fighting back against Epic Games as part of the ongoing antitrust litigation between the two companies. A new countersuit was filed by Google against Epic Games and focuses on something called Project Liberty. Project Liberty is the name given to the 2020 plan from Epic that had them adding an alternate payment method to the Android and iOS versions of Fortnite.

This meant that users could bypass paying Apple or Google for purchases made...

Epic Games Not Done with Store Exclusives
    by Shawn Zipay
The exclusives have slowed but only because Epic is focusing on snagging bigger fish.

If you believed that the period of Epic Games Store exclusives was a thing of the past, you would apparently be wrong. Timed-exclusive Epic Games Store releases were slowing down enough that it would be easy to believe that Epic finally decided to stop doing one of the most hated things to hit PC gaming in years.

    Sadly, that isn't the case.

During a call discussing the newly...
