Epic Games Not Done with Store Exclusives

The exclusives have slowed but only because Epic is focusing on snagging bigger fish.

If you believed that the period of Epic Games Store exclusives was a thing of the past, you would apparently be wrong. Timed-exclusive Epic Games Store releases were slowing down enough that it would be easy to believe that Epic finally decided to stop doing one of the most hated things to hit PC gaming in years.

    Sadly, that isn't the case.

During a call discussing the newly...

Sony Invests Another $1 Billion in Epic

This comes a year after Sony invested $200 million.

Last year, Sony invested $200 million (USD) into Epic Games. I could have sworn I put up a news post about this when it happened, but I cannot seem to find it at the moment, so you'll just have to trust me on this. Or you can just read the official release of that from April 13, 2021 via Epic Games.

Almost one year later and Sony is again pouring money into Epic Games. This time, instead of $200 million the amount is...

Tim Sweeney Loves Monopolies but Only When He's Running Them

The controversial Epic Games CEO wants there to be just one software storefront for multiple devices.

Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, said that he wants a world where there is a single unified game store. In an interview with Bloomberg, Sweeney says that Epic has been working with developers and services providers to help make that happen.

In the interview, Sweeney says, "what the world really needs now is a single store that works with all platforms. Right now...

Apple Bans Fortnite from App Store for Five Years

Tim Sweeney is throwing himself a little pity party.

Over on the wonderful social media platform known as Twitter, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny revealed that Apple has rejected their request to add Fortnite back on to the App Store. Specifically, Apple has refused the request to reinstate Epic's developer account that was terminated back in August 2020 right as the legal fight was heating up.

Sweeney shared a letter that was sent to him by Apple. This letter rejects Epic's...

Fall Guys Developer Acquired by Epic Games

Masters of striking while the iron is tepid.

Epic Games have acquired Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Mediatonic, the development studio behind Fall Guys. Mediatonic claims that not much will change for Fall Guys, at least in the short term. That means that the game will still be available for purchase, for now, through Steam. Of course, we all know what happened the last time Epic acquired a game studio...

Fall Guys was a major flash in the pan release that saw...

Borderlands 3 PC Pre-load is Back on the Menu for Epic Games Store

    YOLO!

2K Games just announced that everyone who pre-ordered Borderlands 3 through the Epic Games Store, will actually have the ability to pre-load the game just like their console pals. This is quite the turnaround from roughly a month ago when Tim Sweeney said that there wouldn't be any pre-load for the game because "it's complicated."

There is a bit of bad news on this, of course. The pre-load period will begin just two days before the game is set to be released....

No Pre-loads for Borderlands 3 on Epic Games Store

    Just another launcher.

Epic's Tim Sweeney says that there will be no pre-loads for Borderlands 3 on the PC through the Epic Games Store. If you have purchased the game, you will need to wait until the game is released before you can even download it. Those on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will not have this problem.

Those of you who have somewhat decent Internet connections probably won't have to worry about waiting for too long, provided the download servers hold up....

  • Epic Promises to Cover Shenmue 3 Refunds for Problem They Created in the First Place

Then quickly announces this will happen again.

If you've been following the Shenmue 3 development saga for any length of time, you are probably well aware of a few things. First, you are probably well aware that the game pulled in over $6.3 million on Kickstarter alone. After the Kickstarter run ended, it used another service to keep collecting from fans that wanted to help fund the game. The total amount pledged rose to almost $7.2 million. Deep Silver was then selected as the game's...

Epic and Improbable Create $25 Million Fund to Move Devs Away from Unity

It's been a real rollercoaster of a day for those using the Unity game engine. First, Unity cut off all future support for the online multiplayer platform called SpatialOS. Unity updated their terms of service back on December 4, 2018, and only clarified these changes to the SpatialOS development team at Improbable on January 10, 2019. These changes specifically prevent services like SpatialOS from working with Unity.

SpatialOS is a widely used development toolkit allowed developers...

Epic Confirms Unreal Tournament Development is Dead

In a reveal that should surprise nobody, Epic Games confirmed that they have halted development on Unreal Tournament. In 2014, a new Unreal Tournament was announced. Development was supposed to be this huge collaborative effort between a small team at Epic, Unreal Engine 4 devs, and the public. We really haven't heard much about the game for literally years now. It's out there. It's playable. There isn't much content, but it existed in a state that you could, realistically, play some matche...

Epic Games Buys Easy Anti-Cheat Makers

Epic Games, the studio behind a little game called Fortnite, just announced that they have bought the company, Kamu, behind the anti-cheat software that is appropriately called Easy Anti-Cheat.

Fret not, however, because developer Kamu says that they will continue to work with other developers and other game engines for their anti-cheat solutions. Epic's Tim Sweeney also offered up his own thoughts on this new acquisition.

Tim Sweeney Continues Hyperbolic, Baseless Attack on Windows 10

Tim Sweeney was once known for his role in co-founding Epic Games. Epic Games, as we all know, created some of the world's most recognized titles in franchises such as Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. They have also created one of the world's most widely used game engines, Unreal Engine. These days, Sweeney is more keen on throwing out a bunch of outlandish claims against the Windows 10 operating system and against Microsoft. About a year ago, Sweeney first started his attacks on ...
