The cowards at GOG have decided not to sell the horror game.

Earlier today it was announced by GOG.com that they would be selling the horror game Devotion. For some context, read our previous story from February 2019 detailing how the developers pulled Devotion from Steam following mass outcry from China. In short, the game contained an Easter egg depicting Chinese president Xi Jinping as the Winnie-the-Pooh looking fellow that he is. China got real mad, especially since the game was developed by a team in Taiwan.

Chinese citizens review bombed the game on Steam. The developers pulled it from Steam and faced some political backlash. It was not clear if or when Devotion would ever be released again.

It was soon presumed that Devotion would no longer be sold anywhere and that remained a fact for well over a year and a half now. Earlier today, that was all about to change as GOG announced that the Taiwan developed horror game would be added to their storefront shortly.

It didn't take long for them to chicken out on this move following pressure from, ahem, "gamers." The official response that GOG provided to the public is that they received "many messages from gamers" that prompted them to no longer list the game at GOG.com.


Frankly, this is a load of bullshit. I know "gamers" can be a lot of terrible things, but to say that they pressured GOG into not placing this excellent title on their storefront is just the biggest load of crap I've read in quite some time. It is more likely that Chinese citizens who are still hopelessly devoted to president Xi Jinping, are the ones who pressured GOG into this new course of action. After all, we saw them review bomb the ever living crap out of Devotion on Steam prior to the developers pulling it from that storefront.

Instead of just region blocking the game from being sold in China, as they do already for games in other countries, GOG went ahead and bent the knee to China. Haven't used that phrase in a hot minute, but here we are.

Keep in mind that GOG is owned by CD Projekt. The hits really just do keep coming for the company that recently misled consumers when it came to Cyberpunk 2077 performance and quality, especially on last-generation platforms.

To say that CD Projekt and GOG acted completely cowardly today would be putting it mildly.

As for the developer of Devotion, Red Candle Games, they have been busy working on their third title. We hope to hear more about that in the months ahead.
