Bethesda Game Studios released The Elder Scrolls: Blades today. Officially, it was already out but it existed as an early access style release. Today marks the first update for the game outside of early access. That update is Update 1.7 and with it comes a number of new quests, rewards, and more. There's even a free gift for players as a special thank you.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a free download from the Nintendo eShop. Since its initial release, Blades has implemented a number of user requested features and tweaks. These additions include things like a PvP Arena, guilds, loadouts, new quests, the removal of chest timers, and more. There is also cross-progression saves, which will allow players to swap between their mobile devices and their Switch should they link their Bethesda.net account. Cross-platform functionality doesn't end there either. Guild members and friends can chat with each other across devices and battle each other in the Arena.
Though The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a free download, there is an optional Quick Start Edition of the game. This one time purchase of $14.99 (USD) will give you 30,000 Gold, 2,000 Gems, building materials, an exclusive Sylvan Fountain decoration, and rare gear once owned by the Bloodfall King.
If you aren't really aware of what The Elder Scrolls: Blades is, you can check it out right now on your phone or the Switch for free. Think of it as a really bite-sized version of an Elder Scrolls game. There are dungeons to fight your way through, loot to find, and you can help to build up a town however you want to. It's a simple game to grasp but it's still a fair bit of fun.
The game was first announced back in June of 2018, back in the time of the scary broken attachments! I'm not sure if they want to bring the game to additional platforms besides the Switch and mobile, but there is a chance still of that happening.
Those who have been playing a while are probably more interested in what Update 1.7 is all about. So let's just get right into the changelog highlights.
- Challenge the Grand Champion and go on all-new quests – Update 1.7 introduces six never-before-seen quests, including a new questline that plays in the same style as Blades’ PvP Arena mode, challenging players to battle through a gauntlet of progressively stronger opponents leading up to the Grand Champion.
- Arena Rewards and Guild Leaderboards – Update 1.7 resets the PvP leaderboards and will reward additional prizes like Gems, Health Potions, and Chests to players based on the Arena they’ve reached – as well as a unique helm for top-ranked players.
- Celebrate Blades out of Early Access with a free gift – As a special thank you, a brand-new decoration is now available for free for Early Access players, just by logging in.
