Bethesda Celebrates 25 Years of Elder Scrolls with a Morrowind Giveaway

Bethesda is celebrating 25 years of The Elder Scrolls today. On this day back in 1994, Bethesda released the first Elder Scrolls title called The Elder Scrolls: Arena for DOS. And while it's not that easy to play the original Elder Scrolls on modern machines, you should still be able to play The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

It's probably a good thing that FOR TODAY ONLY (March 25, 2019), you can get a free copy of Morrowind to keep forever and ever for the life of the Bethesda.net Launcher. Here is how you can snag your free copy of Morrowind, plus some other freebies. Do...

Bethesda Pushes The Elder Scrolls: Blades to 2019

Bethesda's upcoming free-to-play mobile title, The Elder Scrolls: Blades was set to be released this Fall. Instead, the studio has officially announced today that the game will not be released until some time in 2019. Things don't really seem to be going well for Bethesda this week, eh?

Given that we are now less than a month away from Winter kicking off, time was getting cut a little close to meet that "Fall" promise. The official word of the delay came via the official Elder Scrolls Twitter account.

You know what? After the state that Fallout 76 was released in, perhaps it's best...

Todd Howard Says Bethesda will Stop Releasing Skyrim if People Stop Buying It

Bethesda loves to re-release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I mean, it's become a joke at this point but a joke that has some basis in reality. For instance, we have Skyrim available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. We have Skyrim VR available for the PlayStation 4 and PC. We have Skyrim Special Edition for Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

So, why so many Skyrim releases? It's simple: People keep buying it and people keep playing it. Bethesda's own Todd Howard talked about this very thing with Geoff Keighley during Gamelab in Barcelona. GI.biz sat in on the interview and provided the following quote...

  • The Elder Scrolls: Blades Announced - Mobile First Starting in Fall then Coming to Other Platforms Later

It used to be a joke that Bethesda would announce a new Elder Scrolls game for mobile devices before they announced a new one for consoles and PC. Today, that joke is no more because it's a reality.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a mobile first Elder Scrolls title that will hit iOS and Android devices starting this Fall. Following that, it will be released on other platforms though dates have not yet been announced. You can pre-register right now to be informed the moment the game is released for your mobile platform of choice.

    Review: Kingdom Come: Deliverance (PC)

I don't remember history being this buggy.
If there is one area that video games come up short in, it's when they attempt to tackle real-life history. Specifically, games come up well short in being historically accurate without also including a healthy dose of embellishment or suspension of disbelief. In nearly all of the games that focus on real-world history, you almost always play as some overpowered jack-of-all-trades. Yes, this includes games and franchises such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, Total War, Civilization, and even Assassin's Creed.

Thankfully, we have a game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance that comes along to not only embrace the idea of a "historically accurate" game but to completely redefine what the genre should be striving to achieve. Kingdom Come is set in 15th century Bohemia and no, you aren't some all-powerful character that somehow knows how to fight like a God and tank hits like your body was made of solid steel. You start out as a nobody named...

Skyrim is Getting a Paid Survival Mode

Bethesda announced today that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will soon have a shiny new Survival Mode on both the consoles and the PC versions of the game. Bethesda says that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will get their hands on this Survival Mode and other Creations early next month. PC owners can opt-in to the Skyrim Survival Mode beta starting right now.

And now comes the fun bit.

This additional Survival Mode will be free to both PC and console players for one week once it launches on each platform. After that one week is up, the wording seems to indicate that Bethesda is going to charge you to add the Survival Mode to your account. How much will it be? Bethesda hasn't officially announced that bit yet. One NeoGAF user did manage to dig up this screenshot, which seems to indicate that it will run users 800 of those Creation Club points.

The price of these credits is roughly 100 points ...
