A new contender for the "Souls-like" blanket umbrella was just announced. Mortal Shell is an upcoming action-RPG currently in development by the small development team Cold Symmetry and set to be published by Playstack. The announcement comes complete with a brief teaser trailer, screenshots, and some general gameplay details.
We know already that Mortal Shell is most certainly inspired by the Dark Souls games. Besides the obvious similarities seen in the trailer, the developers themselves flat out said that this game is inspired by Souls-like titles. It's hard to argue against that sort of comparison when even the devs say it. Mortal Shell is currently aiming for a Q3 2020 release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Cold Symmetry was formed in 2017 with a core team size of just four people. The team is made up of "AAA veterans with a strong passion for making games of their own." Mortal Shell will be Cold Symmetry's debut title.
