The classic strategy series returns very soon.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection

On June 5, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be released. EA announced that this compilation of real-time strategy titles will hit PC via both Origin and Steam.

Included in this collection are Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Command & Conquer: Red Alert and the three expansion packs of Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and The Aftermath.

EA is calling this release a "passiona project" between themselves and some of the original developers at Westwood Studios that are now working at Petroglyph. This project was revealed back in October 2018 in order to take in community feedback before work actually began on development. A special "Community Council" was even created that provided some fans with direct access to the development team for the Remastered Collection.

Coming with Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be rebuilt graphics, rebuilt textures, and support for up to 4K resolutions. The over 7 hour long soundtrack has been completely remastered by the original composer Frank Klepacki. Other improvements include a revamped user interface, updated controls, and a Map Editor.

Multiplayer has also been "built from the ground up" to support a more modern online experience. There will be support for custom games, 1v1 quick matches, Elo-based matchmaking, leaderboards, replays, and "much more." Though it's not exactly a high bar to surpass, this is shaping up to be a worthwhile remaster effort.

The best part is that this entire collection starts at just $19.99 (USD). The digital release for Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is your cheapest purchase option. After that is a $59.99 physical box release (that actually includes a Steam download code) with some bonus goodies, and a physical "25th Anniversary Edition" at $149.99. As you can probably imagine, this last one has a lot of bonus stuff included. There is one option not listed here and that is the Origin Access Premier subscription. Those of you with that subscription probably already figured that you would get this game included anyway.

The Command & Conquer series helped cement the foundation of the RTS genre’s core gameplay when Command & Conquer: Tiberium Dawn was released in 1995, introducing innovative faction mechanics with asymmetric unit creation and technology trees for a highly strategic experience. In addition to gameplay, the series pushed the boundaries for storytelling with its unique and lighthearted full-motion video (FMV) cutscenes, ultimately creating one of the most recognized villains in games with Kane, the megalomaniac leader of The Brotherhood of Nod. In Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, Earth has been overrun by Tiberium and while GDI (Global Defense Initiative) aims to contain the material, The Brotherhood of Nod looks to harness its power, leading to all-out war between the factions. Command & Conquer: Red Alert is set in an alternate universe where the Soviet Union wages war on the Allies in a fun, action-packed, tactical RTS game.
