That's gonna be a big yikes from me.

Square Enix released some new media today for Final Fantasy VII Remake. Today's new media showcase includes character renders for Red XIII and Hojo. We also get some fresh screenshots, which are looking as lovely as always. The new renders for Red XIII and Hojo can be found at the bottom of this article. They will be included amongst the over 20 new screenshots for Final Fantasy VII Remake.

We also get our first look at the special Summons that are included in special bundles or pre-orders. Well, we have Cactuar. He's looking fantastic in his very iconic pose. He's included in the Deluxe and 1st Class Editions of the game.


And then we have Carbuncle and Chocobo Chick. I'll let you come up with your own jokes. I'm sure you can think up a few. Maybe something to do with that galaxy brain meme. Maybe you're comparing them to the old look of Sonic from the Sonic movie. Perhaps you old SNL fans out there can brainstorm something involving the Coneheads.


Like, they just don't look good. This is especially true when you stack them up against nearly every other model, design, screenshot, and video that has been released for this game. They stand out like a sore thumb (which they also coincidentally resemble).

To be completely fair here, Carbuncle was never actually in the original release of Final Fantasy VII. It's a new addition for Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it has appeared in other Final Fantasy titles over the years. For instance, you were able to have Carbuncle in Final Fantasy VIII, IX, XIII, XV, and a whole bunch more. As an example, here is what Carbuncle looked like in Final Fantasy VIII.

Adorable, right? Even the Chocobo Chicks from previous games were usually cute. Here is how they looked like in Final Fantasy XIII.

There's still some time that maybe these designs will change before its April 10 release on the PlayStation 4. If not, I can already see numerous model replacements coming out from the modding community for the (hopeful) PC release in 2021.

At least the new screenshots also released today look pretty good. You can use them to get the image of Carbuncle and Chocobo Chick out of your mind.
