A remake of the old SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was announced today by THQ Nordic. The publisher said that the remake is called SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and it is being developed by Purple Lamp Studios.
There isn't too much to go on right now from today's announcement. I assume it's just the old game but given a fresh coat of paint. The original was apparently enjoyed by a fair number of people for some reason, so people seem to be rather hyped for this one.
At the very least it's coming to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The site was long ago delisted from Google because of the content that is hosted and discussed there. Nobody responsible for the AMA on that site was fired from THQ, nor were any punishments, if there were any, publicly disclosed.
But hey, judging by the responses to the announcement tweet, nobody seems to give a damn anymore, if they ever did in the first place. As is common with gamers, being mad about a thing goes away in the blink of an eye unless it's about things like Epic Game Store exclusives, or "EA is bad," or how the "SJWs/feminists are ruining video games." I will not be bringing up the THQ AMA again in future news posts.
Here's the trailer. Enjoy.
