First off, why is there going to be a film adaptation of Duke Nukem? Secondly, why is John Cena in talks to play the title character?

These are all questions that I don't care to have answered really. Have we learned nothing from when the Rock played Mr. John Q. Doom from the 2005 Doom film? I guess not because Platinum Dunes, the company run by Michael Bay (ooooh, I get it now), Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller are ready to produce the Duke Nukem movie.
Platinum Dunes is one of the companies behind The Purge action franchise and has produced the Ninja Turtles movies for Paramount. It next has the John Krasinski-directed horror movie A Quiet Place opening April 6.

Cena has quietly made Paramount his de facto movie home, having appeared in the studio’s Daddy Home 2, which has grossed over $100 million domestically, and is due to appear in Bumblebee, the studio’s Transformers spinoff that Bay produced.

There's no director yet. What about a writer? Nope, nobody for that either, but a search for one will supposedly start soon. I hear George Broussard might be free.
