In 2014, Nidhogg was first released. It was as much a strategy game as it was an action game. Two opponents faced off using only their wits and fencing abilities to make it to the end while their opponent tries the same but in the opposite direction.

Cut to 2016 where Nidhogg 2 was just announced that looks to expand upon the ideas that made the original so damn fun to play. It also brings about a new art style that, in this journalist's opinion, looks terrible.

Developer Messhof have said that Nidhogg 2 will add in new levels and new weapons in addition to the new art style. Speaking of the art style, it was created by Toby Dixon. The style was created in order to allow Messhof to more easily expand upon the combat systems.
Take the bow for instance. You can attack from a distance—three arrows is a kill—and throw it when you’re out of ammo to knock your opponent down, but it takes a while to load. Arrows are blockable with the sword and axe, as you’d expect, and are persistent. So if your opponent misses with an arrow, it’s probably a good idea to pick it up and deny them another shot. The axe can break through the sword’s defense and open up a turtle to another attack—it passes through a thrown sword in the air too—but it’s slow and unwieldy. Throwing knives move swiftly through the air, making them difficult to dodge, but don’t have an autoguard function. If someone gets in your face, all you can do is throw, leaving you open to, well, death.

You will still be able to play customized games with the OG sword, if you so desire. The Steam page says that Nidhogg 2 is slated to arrive in 2017.
