• Killing Floor 2 Takes a Cue from CS:GO with Cosmetic Item Pack Microtransactions

Earlier, Tripwire Interactive announced some new cosmetic item packs that have a chance to drop while playing Killing Floor 2. Much like in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Team Fortress 2, these packs will contain a fairly random assortment of cosmetic gear that you can unlock by purchasing a key from the store. That means you randomly get a supply crate, you buy a key, and you cross your fingers that you will get the particular cosmetic item you want.
FREE LOOT!
At the end of a long day fighting hordes of zeds you're likely to find some loot, just as a reward for doing a good job of slaughtering the mutant hordes. You may find individual cosmetic accessories to wear or weapon skins to tote. When you do, they are yours to keep forever, trade with your friends, or sell on the market - whichever you like.

NEW PLAYER OUTFITS
Bored of the same old rags when fighting hordes of zeds? Here are 3 new uniform bundles, available for your favorite zed killers. Each bundle comes with a new uniform, a new cosmetic and multiple skin variants for them! These are purchasable from the Trading Floor whenever you want.

HORZINE SUPPLY CRATES
Horzine supply crates contain a single skin variant of a wearable cosmetic, chosen at random from a set of possible items for each type of crate. The crates can be unlocked with a decryption key purchasable from the Trading Floor or on the Steam Market. Accessories come in different skin variants and 6 tiers of rarity. There is also a chance the crate will contain a precious golden accessory.

ENCRYPTED RARE WEAPON SKIN
You may also find USB sticks, which contain a single Rare weapon skin blueprint, from a set of possible skins for each type of stick. Unlock them with a decryption key purchasable from the Trading Floor or on the Steam Market. Have a weapon skin you don’t want? Trade it with a friend for one more your style. Or for something else you want. Or just trade the stick. Its up to you. Weapons skins come in 6 tiers of rarity and 3 levels of wear from Mint to Battle-Scarred. There is also a chance it will be an ultra rare precious golden weapon skin.

Of course, some fans are voicing their anger towards Tripwire over this move. Why? Well, Killing Floor 2 is still in Early Access. Fans feel as though the time and effort spent on this should have come after the game was out of Steam Early Access. That is a very fair point and one that I am somewhat inclined to agree with. However, others are raging pretty hard here because they are under the impression that these cosmetic items are somehow identical to the recent microtransactions found in Payday 2. You know, the Payday 2 microtransactions that included cosmetic skins in addition to including gameplay altering stats. To be blunt, these particular people are complete and total morons.

I agree that right now they should be worried about more important issues like completing the game's features and optimizing it, rather than thinking of more ways to make more money out of what they have already done.
But in truth, tripwire already had microtransactions for cosmetics, but instead they where called "Steam DLC". I mean, look at the quantity of DLC you can buy for KF, if that's not microtransactions I don't know what it is :P

I'm fine with this but they really need to work on their marketing for this game, it's another shady business decision on top of their idea to label content updates as "free updates", it gives the impression that the early access was the 'full game' and everything else is extra.

They have indeed had cosmetic DLC for their previous games. Though that DLC came after the game was "released." However, I think the point about them selling DLC, of any kind, already for a game that is still labeled as "Early Access" is a legitimate complaint.

Those that are complaining because they are incorrectly seeing this as DLC that somehow alters the gameplay are still idiots, however.
