A new year means a new Assassin's Creed game. This year it's Assassin's Creed Syndicate and it takes place in London during the Industrial Revolution (1868 to be exact). Let's take a look at that glorious facial hair.

You play as Jacob Frye on a mission "to fight those who exploit the less privileged in the name of progress." Oh but there's a small twist! You can also play as Jacob's sister, Evie! That's right, there is a second protagonist and they're female. From what I've come to understand, however, is that you will still play most of the missions as Jacob and can only play as his sister during free roam. Seems Ubisoft is putting a lot of extra production work into Syndicate as a result.

Ubisoft also released some pre-alpha gameplay footage for the game, which can be viewed below. There are a few other things to note before watching the gameplay.
  • There is no planned multiplayer for the game.
  • Historical figures again play a role, including CHarles Darwin and Charles Dickens.
  • The cover "snap" that probably frustrated you in previous games is now gone.
  • A recruitment style system is in place that lets you grow your gang.
  • The day-night cycle is back after having been removed in Unity.
