When a fan remarked about how much they liked Crysis 3, Read responded by saying there was more that he wish they could have done.
“Some amazing tech behind it for sure. Wish we could have done more on many fronts.”
When asked to explain what he meant, he replied:
“Maybe one day soon, but not right now and definitely not in 140 characters or less. To leave it short .. It’s gameplay related”

Read's Twitter profile confirms the news. It now reads "Former Producer @Crytek and #CCPGames." The state of Crytek is looking more and more bleak by the day.

What changed?
Ryse sold rather poorly. Ryse 2 is canned after a dispute between Microsoft and Crytek on who owns the rights to the franchise. Warface flopped SUPER hard in every area that isn't Russia.
I don't think Crysis 3 did very well either. Wiki says it only sold 205,000 copies in the first 12 days of being on sale in North America.
I don't think licensing of their engine is going so hot either now that Unreal Engine 4 is actually in some form of a stable, released state and nearly comparable in price since they're both doing subscription models. Plus, there's Unity which has been gaining popularity for ages now.
