  • Konami Approves Fan Remake of Original Metal Gear

    A group of modders have been given the green light from Konami to continue making an updated version of the original Metal Gear. The team has been using Valve's Alien Swarm engine for the remake and it seems as though Konami is a-ok with it.
    A few days ago, we received word from KONAMI that said they were happy for us to go-ahead with our remake of the classic MSX game, Metal Gear, aslong as we don't abuse the copyright issues (ie make a profit from the project/take donations). We were then informed to keep them up to date with any updates and feedback received as and when the game is released.

    As thrilled as we were with the news, we then received another email which stated "If the project goes well and there will be public interest in it, KONAMI will surely get to know this and consider further step accordingly".

    As a result of this good news, the team is looking to expand as they "go in full swing with the project." They're looking for designers, modellers, artists, and more.

        Currently ModDB lists the game with a red archiving banner showing development has ceased. According to one comment, a Twitter reply states, "In response to your concern, the project has been ceased until further notice. We should have answers at some point tomorrow." I don't know the validity of this tweet since I can't seem to find their Twitter account (my Google searching skills are unfortunately lacking). Either way, this stopped rather quickly...

            Ok another update from the community comments: I now know their Twitter handle (looks real) and have checked for the actual tweet I mentioned earlier. Interestingly enough, there was a follow-up reply within that tweet with an oddly encouraging tone. This information only adds to my confusion, but that's all we got to go with. Honestly, it sounds like they're rebooting development.
