XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

  • Battlefield Reveal on June 9

    Battlefield Reveal on June 9

I bet there will be explosions.

The official Battlefield Twitter announced earlier today that the big Battlefield reveal will take place on June 9 at 7AM (PT). Though according to Battlefield.com, that 7AM time is just when the countdown to the reveal will begin. When is the actual reveal time? Man, I don't know. Why they didn't just give us the time that the actual reveal will take place is beyond me.

Will it be the same as the leaked trailer? Doubtful. Will it be a new...

Is EA Teasing a June Reveal for the Next Battlefield?

It sure seems like the official Twitter account is hinting at something.

There has been wild speculation now for weeks about when the new Battlefield game would be revealed. We've had tons of leaks pouring out since at least late March here, but so far there hasn't been anything concrete just yet. There was even speculation that we would see the initial reveal trailer this past week, but that has obviously come and gone without anything happening.

    Now, the official Battlefield...

Two Leaked Images Surface for Battlefield 6

The leaks are flowing freely now.

Hot on the heels of a massive Battlefield 6 leaked information blowout comes two leaked screenshots from the upcoming game. These images were originally quite small but Reddit user, Uberkritz2, took it upon himself to use some A.I. upscaling to increase the resolution a bit.

You may doubt the images are authentic, but they were vouched for by known Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson just a short time ago on Twitter.

    The images...

What we do "know" is what Henderson shared with the world just about a day ago during his latest YouTube livestream.

New Need for Speed won't be released until 2022.

Electronic Arts has delayed the development and eventual release of a new Need for Speed title until 2022. This is due to them moving the developers at Criterion Games over to supporting DICE on the next entry in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 6. Battlefield 6 is expected to be released this Fall for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

EA says that neither franchise is in trouble. They also stressed that Criterion...

    Battlefield V Summer Update Trailer

Two maps, lots of new gear, and more.

DICE just deployed an overview trailer for the upcoming Summer Update for Battlefield V. This update is presumed to be the final content update for the game and may very well be the final update overall for the game. You know, except if there are some major issues that still need to be addressed after this update is released.

Speaking of release, the update actually came out on June 4. Why wait until now for the trailer to be released?...

DICE Cancels All Future Battlefield V Chapters

No Normandy. No Eastern Front. It's all done.

For the developers at DICE, the war is over. The team has made the decision to ditch their "Chapter" idea, which effectively brings an end to their idea that "every chapter brings a new battlefield." Originally, DICE had a grand idea to take players through a significant chunk of WWII. Their idea was to spread out the war over a series of chapters. Each chapter would take us to a new period of time and location in the...

Chapter 6, Into the Jungle, launches on February 6. This chapter will continue the fight between the United States and Japan. Instead of open beaches, this new chapter will take you...

This new chapter is appropriately called Into the Jungle and it takes us, you guessed it, into some dense jungle environments. Well, there's at least one dense jungle environment.

There's no saying how many new maps this next chapter will actually bring, though certain wording in official statements seem to indicate...

DICE announced that their planned Private Matches feature is finally coming to Battlefield V. It will arrive on all platforms on December 9, but they won't be called Private Matches. Instead, DICE is calling them Community Games.

DICE Nerfed the TTK Yet Again in Battlefield V

Almost one year later and DICE is repeating the same exact mistakes.

Back on December 12, 2018, DICE decided to adjust the TTK (Time To Kill) for weapons in Battlefield V. A lot of the changes made weapons a fair bit less effective at actually taking out enemies. DICE said that they found that their "wider player base was dying too fast." That is to say, the shorter TTK wasn't too friendly for new players. To say that the core Battlefield community hated the changes is probably...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
