  • Outpost Mode Now Live as Latest Weekly Battlefield V Mode

Outpost Mode Now Live as Latest Weekly Battlefield V Mode

This mode places a larger emphasis on teamwork and building, not murder.

DICE released the latest weekly game mode for Battlefield V earlier today. It's called Outpost and it will be live from today through to next week. It is a 64-player game type playable on Arras and Mercury. The basic idea behind this mode isn't necessarily about killing, but rather on building up, upgrading, destroying, and controlling radio towers.

Teams will win when they beat the enemy to reaching a set number of points. Points in Outpost are called "recruits." You get more of these...

  • Battlefield V - Introduction Videos for Marita and Al Sundan Maps, Iwo Jima Returning this Fall

    Coming this July.

During EA Play 2019, DICE and EA provided some introductory videos for Marita and Al Sundan (pictured above). Marita will be released this July while Al Sundan will be out on June 27 for Battlefield V.

But then again, we already knew about this.

We have both introductory videos for Marita and Al Sundan below. Two additional maps coming at a date "to be determined" is Lofoten Island and Provance. The final map revealed was Operation Underground, which is slated for October. Yes, this is the Operation Metro set in WWII you've always...

  • EA is Changing the Name of Their Latest Battlefield V Elite Soldier

EA is Changing the Name of Their Latest Battlefield V Elite Soldier

It turns out the name belonged to a real-world resistance fighter, not a Nazi.

One of the new Elite soldiers in Battlefield V is getting a name change from EA and DICE. The new Elite, Wilhelm Franke, is the current name of one of the pre-built soldiers players can purchase for real money to use in multiplayer.

This character in Battlefield V is a German that fights for the Axis, aka "the baddies." Or to say it another way: He's a Nazi. In real life, Wilhelm Franke was the name of an anti-fascist resistance fighter during WWII. He fought in Dresden and was arrested...

    EA Shares E3 Streaming Schedule

    Keynotes are so last year.

EA not holding their annual E3 press conference for this year's event was known for quite some time now. In its place, the company has decided instead to have a long series of streams featuring various games that are coming out or that are already out.

Today, the official schedule for these streams was revealed by the official EA Star Wars account. This is presumably because Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the game that will kick off the event, beginning at 9:30AM (PT) on June 8. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order being the newest Star Wars game...

  • Mercury Map Released Early as DICE Pulls Two Game Modes from Battlefield V

DICE giveth and they taketh away.

First, the good news for Battlefield V fans. Today, DICE released the new Mercury map a day earlier than expected. It seems as though today's release doesn't actually require any additional client update as it was included in the last major update from last week. That's awesome! You can dive in, perhaps literally, to the new Mercury map right now on all platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

What you cannot do right now is play the Frontlines or Domination modes anymore. Ah yes, here's the "bad news" portion of today's...

  • A Look at the New Mercury Map Coming Thursday to Battlefield V

A Look at the New Mercury Map Coming Thursday to Battlefield V

The battle for Crete is about to begin.

A reveal trailer for the upcoming Mercury map was released a little bit ago today. This map is coming on May 30 for everybody that owns Battlefield V and will cost you nothing. It is, hopefully, the start of some fresh maps for the game which is in desperate need of new content.

This map will be the start of a few Mediterranean themed maps. This one in particular takes place during the real-life Operation Mercury along the Cretan coast. The next chapter starting in June, Chapter 4, will then add in the Marita map, presumably based...

  • Anthem Falls Out of Top 49 Most Played Games on Xbox

Anthem Falls Out of Top 49 Most Played Games on Xbox

It's being beat by games that have been out for far longer.

This week, Microsoft updated their most played games section on their store. These are the most played games in the Xbox ecosystem from 1 to 49. Why 49 and not 50? How am I supposed to know? The important part here is that Anthem has now fallen off of this most played list.

The last handful of games on the list include Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2, Brawlhalla, and Battlefield 1. That's Battlefield 1, not the more recent Battlefield 5 which is actually looking to be the 23rd most played game on the...

  • New 425.31 Nvidia Drivers Bring Ray Tracing to Older GTX Cards

New 425.31 Nvidia Drivers Bring Ray Tracing to Older GTX Cards

Remember about a month back when we told you that ray tracing was coming to those with non-RTX Nvidia cards? That day has finally arrived. With today's release of the 425.31 drivers, those on 1060 and higher cards can now give real-time ray tracing a spin.

Since all of these older cards lack the special hardware that helps to speed up DirectX Raytracing (DXR) in games, don't expect to have fantastic framerates. However, if you understand what you're getting yourself into, go nuts with it. Just make sure you have one of the following cards, have updated to the 425.31 Nvidia drivers,...

  • Real Money 'Battlefield Currency' Finally Announced for Battlefield V; New Patch Arrives April 4

Two things were revealed by DICE and EA today for Battlefield V. First is the changelog for the soon to be released Battlefield V update. This is the second update for Chapter 3: Trial by Fire and, as you expect, includes a lot of changes for the Firestorm battle royale mode. Do note that the link I provided here to the update changelog is to a PDF.

With that out of the way, it's now time to talk about "Battlefield Currency." The community has already started to call them "Boins," so don't be surprised if you see that pop up more than once. This is a new...

  • Battlefield V 2019 Roadmap Reveals New Map Releases and New Theater of War

DICE has finally provided the roadmap for Battlefield V through Fall 2019. Included in this roadmap are mentions of new maps, which look to begin in May, and a new theater of war. Given the name of the new theater, Awakening the Giant, slated for Fall 2019, is the upcoming theater of war.

Given the title of that new theater, I think it's safe to say that they're referencing the United States. This is based off of the famous quote from Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto in reference to the United States following the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan.

    If there's...

  • Battlefield 5 'Firestorm' Battle Royale Reveal Trailer and First Details

The upcoming battle royale mode for Battlefield 5 was finally revealed today thanks to an all-new trailer. The trailer doesn't show actual gameplay, but it does offer an "in-engine" look at some of the antics you and your crew will get up to.

I suppose I should preface this by saying Firestorm is the name of this new mode. It's slated to be added to Battlefield 5, free of charge to everyone that owns the game, on March 25.

Firestorm finds 64 players battling it out to be the last one standing in a match. The map size is said to be "ten times larger...

  • DICE Buffs Shotguns in March 5 Update for Battlefield 5

DICE Buffs Shotguns in March 5 Update for Battlefield 5

DICE has already provided the patch notes for the Battlefield V update that is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, March 5. This is "Update #4" for Battlefield V Tides of War Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes. Yeah, their naming conventions on these updates are a bit annoying, I agree.

Of the changes included in this update, we're going to see an overall buff to the shotguns in the game. DICE somehow came to the conclusion that they were now weaker than SMGs? I, uh, hm... well, that's one way to look at it. You can either read the changes via this PDF link from DICE...

  • EA Apparently Blames Weak Battlefield V Sales on Prioritizing Campaign Over Battle Royale

Just when you thought the general rabble about Battlefield V was finally quieting down, EA released their Q3 2019 financials to investors today. In doing so, EA's top brass say that Battlefield V sold roughly 1 million units below expectations because development prioritized a single player campaign over getting a battle royale mode ready for launch.

To its credit, Battlefield V still sold 7.3 million units across all platforms, but it's still considered underperforming according to EA's expectations. This disappointment was conveyed today by EA CEO Andrew Wilson.

    2018 Games of the Year

A week or two ago I took you through some of the games I felt were the worst video games in 2018. There were a variety of reasons included for why those games made that list, ranging from the games just being broken to the games just being boring.

Today, we're going in the opposite direction. Today, we are going to look at some of the best games of 2018. The list, with one exception is in no real particular order. I will try to keep it brief since this is probably already a month out of date by the time this goes live. I only include games that I played here. I do not own...
