  • Sound Loop Crash Fixed for Battlefield 4... Again!

For at least the second time in its life, the sound loop crash for Battlefield 4 has been fixed by DICE! An update was released today for the PC version of the game that addresses this and other outstanding issues.

Changelog for Battlefield 4 PC for February 25, 2014

-Fix for the so called “sound loop crash” issue that caused the game to freeze
-Fix for an issue that sometimes prevented players from shooting while in the gunner position of a vehicle
-Fix for the headshot icon appearing incorrectly at non-headshot deaths, such as suicide or dying of an explosion
    -General stability improvements

    Mantle
    -General stability and performance improvements
-Fix for an issue that caused the sky/fog to be either too bright or too dark when Mantle was used
-Added on-screen video memory utilization statistics with “Render.DrawScreenInfo”

There are already multiple posts on the Battlelog forums about how the latest patch causes a black screen on load now. Awesome.

I would say that "I'm getting really tired of DICE's inability to fix this game after four months" but I'm well beyond that point already. So, it seems* that they fixed the sound loop crash that I was having with the last update. I actually managed to start and finish a round in Metro 2014 (holy hell, that map is somehow worse than in BF3!) without crashing! That map was a 100% guaranteed crash for me prior to this patch.

Then the next map loaded up, Firestorm. It was a map that did not have a single issue as far as crashing is concerned. I'm in it for about five minutes and BAM, the game crashed. It wasn't a sound loop crash, it was just an instant crash with a Windows message saying the game stopped responding crash.

      Un-fucking-believable.

Not to mention the increased number of server crashes on what were formerly stable, regular servers that my buddies and I frequent.

*I say this because I haven't yet encountered the sound loop crash again but I'm not going to say definitively that it's been fixed. I've heard that line before from DICE and we saw what happened there. I'll be damned if I fully trust them fully again on these things.
