  • Metal Gear Solid Movie is Again in the Works, This Time from the Final Destination Filmmakers

Maybe the 50th time is the charm.

Another attempt is being made to bring Metal Gear Solid to the big screen. This time it's Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein that will attempt to tell the tale of Solid Snake.

Lipovsky and Stein are best known for making Final Destination: Bloodlines, which was released in 2025. The latest entry in that horror franchise pulled in some very favorable reviews from critics and movie goers, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Final Destination: Bloodlines grossed $317 million globally and was made on a budget of just $50 million.

Word on this new attempt at a Metal Gear Solid film comes via The Hollywood Reporter. According to their reporting, Sony Pictures signed the two filmmakers, and their studio Wonderlab, to "a sweeping and expansive first-look deal, which covers all of the studio's film labels." The deal between Sony Pictures and the pair will allow Lipovsky and Stein to direct Sony Columbia Pictures adaptation of Metal Gear Solid.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad are still slated to serve as producers on the film.

“Zach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals and suspense, and two of the most impressive director/producers working today,” said Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group President Sanford Panitch in a statement. “With projects across all the company’s film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them, and proud to have them as part of the Sony family.”
If this actually pans out, it may still be a long while before anything of substance is shared. Lipovsky and Stein already have several projects in the works, including an animated Venom movie for Sony Pictures Animation and a sci-fi film The Earthling for Columbia Pictures. They also previously announced that they are working on a new Gremlins film, Long Lost with Amblin and Universal, and The Traveler with Paramount.

Is this the attempt that results in an actual Metal Gear Solid film being made? Your guess is as good as anybody else's guess at this point. There was going to be a Metal Gear Solid film directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts at some point. In 2020, Vogt-Roberts remarked that he was already working on the adaptation for six years. Vogt-Roberts even wanted to bring on Oscar Isaac to play Snake. That version of the film ultimately went nowhere.

Attempts to make a film based on Metal Gear Solid have been kicking around off and on now for probably over two decades. Hey, maybe this time it will actually happen. Maybe.
