Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts wants David Hayter back to voice Snake.

First off, yes there is a Metal Gear Solid movie still kind of in production. The movie's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts isn't necessarily talking about the movie today. Instead, he's busy brainstorming a potential animated series that he wants to make based on the Metal Gear franchise. Not only does he want to do that after the film is complete, he wants to do it with David Hayter returning to play the voice of Snake.

This big reveal came during an interview on Gary Whitta's Animal Talking show. Not only does Vogt-Roberts want Hayter to return, he wants the original voice cast in its entirety to return. He says that he wants to do this in tandem with the Metal Gear Solid movie.

As for the actual Metal Gear Solid movie, it's been rough going for the director.

“I’ve been on that movie for six years and I’ve been fighting every single day to make sure that we translate that movie properly,” Vogt-Roberts said.

Vogt-Roberts continued: "This is my baby. I've been working on this thing for six years, trying to make it so it is the disruptive, punk-rock, true to Metal Gear, true to Kojima-san spirit version of what this is and I will continue to fight for it every day.”

"It's a difficult thing. Getting any movie made in Hollywood is hard. Getting something like Metal Gear made where it is so complex is even harder. That's why I'm trying to make it for a budget where you can do crazy shit, where you can do the Metal Gear version of it, where it isn't neutered."
Vogt-Roberts did reveal a little insight that Hideo Kojima gave to him regarding the Metal Gear movie: "Betray your audience." I would expect nothing less from Kojima.
