Konami announced that they have temporarily removed some of the Metal Gear Solid titles from various digital stores. This removal specifically impacts Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 along with any package deals that include these titles.

The games were removed because Konami needs to renew the licenses for some of the historical archive footage that is frequently used throughout these titles. God knows that there is a lot of that type of footage included in these games.

The games are probably already gone by the time you read this news, but they'll hopefully be back soon. Konami has not provided a date on when they will return though. The list of impacted titles can be found below.

  • PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY HD EDITION
  • PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER HD EDITION
  • PlayStation®3 METAL GEAR SOLID HD EDITION
  • PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SONS OF LIBERTY HD EDITION
  • PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER HD EDITION
  • PlayStation®Vita METAL GEAR SOLID HD COLLECTION
  • PlayStationâ„¢Now METAL GEAR SOLID HD COLLECTION
  • Xbox 360 METAL GEAR SOLID HD EDITION: 2 & 3

  • GOG.com METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SUBSTANCE

As is common in cases like this, you are still able to download and play the games if you already purchased them prior to their temporary removal from stores. The only thing this temporary removal does is prevent any new purchases from being made for however long it takes to get this issue resolved.
