It's a huge day for Starfield fans, new and old.
A commanding officer and other space fighters planning something.

Starfield is now available on PlayStation 5 for the first time ever. Today also marks the start of a new, permanent price for the base edition of the game: $49.99. Also out today is the new Terran Armada premium DLC and the free Free Lanes update for all players.

The PlayStation 5 release of Starfield makes use of all sorts of PlayStation 5 exclusive features. The PlayStation 5 Pro will also include a Pro Performance Mode that will target a higher FPS while a Pro Visual Mode obviously gives a better looking image at the cost of framerate.

Also available today is the new Terran Armada downloadable content. This DLC adds in a new questline for players that will take them to new areas within the Settled Systems. There will be new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards to earn. Terran Armada will run you $9.99 if purchased as an addition to the base game. It's already included at no extra cost for Starfield Premium Edition owners.

Free Lanes is also out today and is a free update available to all players. This update adds "significant new features and systems" that were made to "deepen the core Starfield experience." One of the major features added in Free Lanes is the ability to actually travel between planets within a system without having to go through yet another loading screen.

Additional features coming with the update include:
    • New locations – A number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, notable increase in variety for players to discover
    • X-Tech – A new resource used to upgrade weapons, ship modules, and more
    • Enemy modifiers – New enemy tiers with performance modifiers, such as extra shielding, more frequent attacks, or elemental damage
    • Moon Jumper – New land vehicle
    • Outpost improvements – Cross-outpost storage and Milliewhale pet
    • New crew – Muria and the mini-bot
    • Starborn Improvement – Ability to bring a limited number of items through the Unity to a NG+
The Free Lanes update is free for all players. All existing Premium Edition owners on Xbox and Steam will receive the Terran Armada DLC at no additional cost.
