Guerrilla Games just revealed the first ever look at Horizon Hunters Gathering, an upcoming cooperative action game for PlayStation 5 and PC. This game will see groups of three teaming up take on all sorts of mechanical foes.
According to Guerrilla, the core foundation of Horizon Hunters Gathering focuses on "challenging and replayable hunts." There were two game modes revealed today: Machine Incursions and Cauldron Descent.
In Machine Incursions, players embark on a "high-intensity mission where waves of machines pour out from underground gateways." Work together to survive and ultimately take on a boss at the end. It sounds like Cauldron Descent will be the real "meat and potatoes" mode for the game. Cauldron Descent is a longer, multi-stage trial set across "ever-changing rooms." Hunts will encounter difficult mechanical foes and explore "hidden doors that promise power and reward for teams prepared to open them."
Both of these modes will be featured in an upcoming closed playtest. The playtest will be conducted through the PlayStation Beta Program and will be available for both PlayStation 5 and PC. The first test will be smaller and will kick off at the end of February.
In Horizon Hunters Gathering, you choose from a roster of uniquely skilled Hunters – each with distinct melee or ranged playstyles and weapons – and select Hunter roles further embedded with a rogue-lite perk system to craft the build that best suits your style and your team.
These Hunters have their own motivations and personal struggles, which comes together in new stories we want to tell in the world of Horizon. The game has a narrative campaign which will introduce new mysteries, characters, and threats, but we’re keeping it under wraps for now. What we can say is that Hunters Gathering is fully canon and its story doesn’t stop at launch!
As you hunt dangerous machines in the wilds, you’ll travel through a range of environments that bring missions and stories to life. Each location offers its own atmosphere, challenges, and opportunities for your team to explore and master together.

As this is a multiplayer focused title, the PlayStation 5 and PC releases should arrive at the same time. An exact date for that release was not yet shared. We do at least know there will be cross-play and cross-progression between the two platforms, which is always great to see.

EDIT 2/10: Looks like the Internerd shares my excitement.
