3D Realms and Anshar Studios shared some unfortunate news today. The upcoming release of Painkiller has been delayed ever so slightly by about three weeks. The new release date for this co-op shooter is October 21, 2025. It will be released on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
There is a good bit of good news to counter that bad news at least. The studios revealed a new roguelike game mode called Rogue Angel. This mode will be separate from the main campaign and will take players to Purgatory. You and your friends will fight through procedurally generated arenas while collecting tarot cards, weapons, and items throughout. Of course, there will be plenty of bosses to take on as well.
Pre-orders for the game are also available now for either the standard or deluxe editions. A physical release of the game is also available for pre-order for either PlayStation or Xbox from many major retailers. Both editions come with the "Iron Crusade" pre-order bonus skin pack. The physical pre-orders include the "Burnished Pride" weapons pack, which includes additional gold weapon skins. The Deluxe Edition comes with the Season Pass, the "Night Watch DLC" with four character skins and six weapon skins, plus post-rerelease bonus skins for weapons and characters.
