An actual look at the new expansion.

Bungie has been relatively quiet about the upcoming expansion for Destiny 2, The Edge of Fate. That's kind of weird given that this new expansion launches on July 15th. Today, Bungie held a developer livestream that finally talked about the new content that is coming, while showing off gameplay from Empire Hunts, a piece of content that Bungie added as part of Destiny 2: Beyond Light from late 2020. That's a hell of a choice.

The Edge of Fate will take players to a new destination, Kepler. Here, players will "uncover a looming threat that predates everything Guardians thought they knew about Sol."

Today's stream showed the new World Tiers system, destination-specific abilities, combat encounters, new combatants, and more. They also showed off "The Portal," which is a "new and streamlined access point for players in Destiny 2 that makes it easier than ever to jump into desired activities, earn rewards, get bonus drops, and obtain earnable armor sets." Yep, the Director won't be updated with new content. Instead, you get to use the Portal.

If you want, pre-orders are live now for the Year of Prophecy for Destiny 2. That includes The Edge of Fate expansion on July 15 and the Renegades DLC on December 2. There's some other stuff included in the pre-order.

I would have loved to have included some actual screenshots here, but Bungie has not uploaded any images or other media for Edge of Fate to their press site since they uploaded the expansion's key art back at the start of May.

Those who pre-order the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition will instantly unlock the Exotic Sniper Rifle, New Land Beyond, an exclusive Exotic ghost, an exclusive Legendary emblem, the Year of Prophecy Exotic emote, and the Dark Side Legends ornament set bundle.

When Destiny first launched in late 2014, it was something special, almost magical. Bungie and Activision created a new franchise that let players explore parts of our Solar System from their couches, forge new friendships, take down massive enemies, and feel akin to comic book superheroes. However, that game was not without its faults. At launch, the game lacked much in the way of in-game story, opting instead to send the...
