According to 80:LV, the developer behind the beloved and highly praised not-scam game The Day Before, Fntastic, is suing a website. The website in question is the rather obscure website Yakutia.info. Their lawsuit worthy crime? Daring to claim that the totally-not-a-scam The Day Before "a scam."
Fntastic says that due to Yakutia labeling The Day Before as a "scam" the studio's reputation was damaged. Fntastic took direct issue with Yakutia articles that used the word "scam" to describe The Day Before. Despite the media outlet replacing "scam" with words that translate to "embarrassment" or "blunder," Fntastic still demanded that the articles be deleted from the website and the editorial team made to apologize to the studio.
Why sue only Yakutia when literally so many other media outlets, YouTubers, streamers, players, dogs, cats, grandparents, and even inanimate objects have called The Day Before a scam? Why, it's quite simple: Yakutia.info is a media outlet based in the same region of Russia, Yakutsk, which also happens to be home to Fntastic's founders, Eduard Gotovtsev and Aisen Gotovtsev.
It is worth noting that, despite the appearance of similar articles worldwide, it was the Yakut journalists that Fntastic decided to sue. At least, there has been no news of them suing, for example, the reputable portal IXBT.com, which initially monitored the Gotovtsev brothers' activities and steamrolled their reputation, speaking emotionally about them in their video blogs. It is possible that the Gotovtsev brothers are not ready for larger projects and therefore focus only on what is within their reach.
In a just world, this lawsuit would go nowhere. However, with this being in Russia and with us apparently all living in Bizarro World, who the hell knows what will happen with this lawsuit.
