The eighth major patch for Baldur's Gate 3 isn't supposed to be out just yet, but it still somehow became available to players on PlayStation 5. Earlier today, Larian Studios revealed that PlayStation 5 players have access to Patch 8 due to an issue or miscommunication somewhere. The problem is, the patch isn't complete yet nor should it be available to anybody.

No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun.
Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8.

While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7.

    How’s your Monday going?

Baldur's Gate Patch 8 was first announced back in late November 2024. Larian Studios said that this final major update to the game would add in features such as a photo mode, 12 new subclasses, cross-platform progression, and a ton more. A pre-release test of the new update was also promised but has also yet to take place, which means the patch itself should not be widely available just yet either.

As Larian notes, it would be wise for PlayStation 5 players to not download this update yet. Beyond making your new saves incompatible with the current live version of the game, which is on Patch 7, it may include other unintended bugs and issues.

It was another huge night for Baldur's Gate 3 and Larian Studios. Though the 2023 RPG came up short of sweeping the 11 categories it was nominated in, it still managed to take home four awards at the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards.

It's apparently not Larian's decision to make.

The door to a possible Switch 2 release of Baldur's Gate 3 was firmly slammed shut today. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), Larian Studios' CEO Swen Vincke says that while Larian "would have loved to" release a Switch 2 port, it just isn't happening.

Larian Not Involved in Upcoming Baldur's Gate HBO Series
      by Shawn Zipay
Will continue the story after the events of Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 was a massive hit for developer Larian Studios. The game won countless Game of the Year awards and still manages to easily pull in over 50,000 players daily even though the game came out in August 2023. It should really come as no surprise that Baldur's Gate is getting a TV show adaptation, joining with several other popular games that are being turned into shows or films over the past few years.
