Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director Corinne Busche confirms that she is parting ways from BioWare and Electronic Arts. Busche says that she is parting from BioWare after 18 years due to being offered an opportunity to make a fresh RPG elsewhere that she "couldn't turn down."
Busche was the game director on Dragon Age: The Veilguard since February 2022. Before joining, Dragon Age: The Veilguard had gone through several different reboots and was in development for the better part of a decade. Busche oversaw the final stretch of development from 2022 until Veilguard's release in October 2024.
In a statement released to Eurogamer, Busche says that the decision to leave "was about my own fulfillment" and has nothing to do with how well Veilguard sold or was received. This was her decision to make.
At the heart of it, this was about my own fulfillment. I did what I set out to do at BioWare. That is to come in and help right the ship. I love Dragon Age, and BioWare, so the chance to return the game to a proper quality single player RPG was the privilege of a lifetime.
"It was hard fought, as games with such tumultuous dev cycles rarely end up shipping, and even more rarely turn out great. We, as a team, did it. And it was hard. It took a toll on me. BioWare still has a lot of work to do culturally, but I do believe they are on the right footing now.
"As for me, my departure was voluntary, as I have been presented with an opportunity I couldn't turn down. I don’t want to say much more right now, but you can count on it being in the CRPG space and upholding the traditions of great characters.

As for BioWare, right now no other departures are expected. The studio has shifted from Dragon Age: The Veilguard development to working on the next Mass Effect game. Several Mass Effect franchise veterans, such as Michael Gamble, are leading development on the upcoming sequel.
