Continuing the 30th anniversary celebration for PlayStation, Sony just released a new trailer celebrating the past 30 years of play. The video showcases some of Sony's long history of PlayStation titles, even though the focus is clearly skewed towards the PlayStation 3 and newer.
While it would have been nice to see far more original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles shown off in the video, it's a nice nod to a few of the franchises that has helped the PlayStation brand continue to succeed to this day. The video even includes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it showing of Bloodborne, a game that will never get a 60 FPS patch, remaster, remake, nor a PC release.
For those curious, no that is not new Bloodborne footage. That same shot can be seen at the 1:16 mark in this Bloodborne trailer from 2015.
The more amazing news here though is that Sony also just released a new update for the PlayStation 5. This update celebrates the PlayStation 30th anniversary by adding in five limited time themes. These themes can be selected and used only for a brief window of time, after which Sony will apparently take the nostalgic goodness away from everyone. Sony giveth and Sony taketh away.
The five themes included in the new update are as follow: 30th Anniversary theme, PS1 theme, PS2 theme, PS3 theme, and PS4 theme. Each theme comes with its own unique sounds and dashboard style.
The cherry on top is that for this limited time, the boot video for the PlayStation 5 has been replaced by the original PlayStation boot. It pops immediately upon rebooting your console for the update and for us old folks that nostalgia hits hard when you see and hear it.
