Sony to Bring Games to Film and TV with Launch of PlayStation Productions

A feature film based on Knack? It's more likely than you think.

It was announced today that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) launched a new PlayStation Productions division. This is a production studio that will help to bring Sony's first-party game offerings to film and TV. PlayStation Productions is being led by Asad Qizilbash and Mr. Worldwide Studios himself, Shawn Layden.

Over its 25 year run producing games, Sony has accumulated more than 100 original properties. Shawn Layden and Qizilbash are all in for this idea....

Microsoft and Sony Announce Team Up for Gaming and Cloud Services

This partnership focuses on "game and content-streaming services."

Microsoft announced today that they and Sony have formed a partnership that will see the two working together on AI solutions and "innovations to enhance customer experiences in their direct-to-consumer entertainment platforms." That's probably as close as you're going to get to them strongly hinting at some form of actual gaming partnership in this announcement release.

The two studios will work together to create new cloud solutions using Microsoft's Azure service that will "support...

Project Cars Devs Announce New Gaming Console

Slightly Mad Studios, the development team behind Project Cars revealed today that they are working on a new "stand alone console" that they hope will be released within the next three years.

The news came directly from the Twitter account of Ian Bell, the CEO of Slightly Mad Studios. He's calling it "The Mad Box" and he's already promising some rather fanciful features. Speaking with Variety, Bell says that The Mad Box will be a console similar to an Xbox or PlayStation. Not only that, but VR support is a fairly major feature that he hopes to include....

    Sony to Skip E3 2019

Sony will not be at E3 2019. This surprising news was confirmed today from a press release sent out by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the group that organizes and runs E3 each year. This means that Sony will not have a traditional pre-show conference. This also means that Sony will not have a booth at E3 2019. Sony is the latest of the "Big 3" to ditch the annual conference. Out of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft only the last one remains. Nintendo gave up on the traditional E3 shows some years back, instead opting for their pre-recorded Nintendo Direct and Nintendo Treehouse videos. EA also put a far lesser emphasis in recent yea...

Sony Takes a Page from Nintendo, Announces PlayStation Classic

Early this morning, Sony announced the PlayStation Classic. Similar in style to the NES Classic or SNES Classic, the PlayStation Classic will come with 20 games pre-loaded onto a miniature piece of hardware that resembles the original PlayStation console. It's gearing up for release on December 3, the 24th anniversary of the original's release.

The PlayStation Classic will retail for $99 (USD) and includes 20 games, two controllers, an HDMI cable, and a USB cable. Oddly, it seems as though the two controllers aren't of the DualShock variety, but rather the OG PlayStation controllers. Yes kids, there existed a time where controllers didn't come with analog sticks....

Madden Franchise Surpasses 130 Million Copies Sold

EA just informed us that the entirety of the Madden NFL franchise has surpassed 130 million units sold. The first Madden game was called John Madden Football and it was originally released on MS-DOS. Most current players probably have no idea what in the world DOS even is.

Since then it has come out on platforms such as the Genesis, SNES, Windows, every PlayStation platform, Xbox consoles, and more. Even the Madden NFL games have managed to achieve almost 73 million installs over the years. There's even a new mobile game, Madden NFL Overdrive, coming out on August 15. Right now, the sales figures are...

GRIP Embraces the Parkour Scene with New Carkour Mode Coming this Fall

When I think of weird futuristic cars that can drive upside down as well as they can when right-side up, I think of parkour. I think of people traversing their environment in unusual ways. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Fortunately for you, the developer of GRIP, Caged Element Inc., feel the same way. Which is why they're introducing a new "Carkour" mode this Fall.

Sony Announces Monthly Players' Choice Awards Voting

Sony just kicked off a new idea that should be a monthly event over at the PlayStation Blog. They just started a "Players' Choice Awards" vote where they are having the community vote on the best PlayStation games released each month. The voting began for January 2018 and looks to run for exactly one week after the polls open. IE: Since the voting opened today, January 31, the voting will end on February 7. The games listed on the polls in the first place were picked based on selections from members of the PlayStation Blog and PlayStation Store teams from games that were released during that month. The community t...

  • Professional NBA Star Paul George Helped to Design These PlayStation Themed Nike Shoes

The idea of a "PlayStation themed shoe" isn't really a weird one, nor is it unique. It has been done a number of times in the past.

However, we haven't had one in a few years and apparently Nike and Sony decided that it was high time that changed. This is where NBA player Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder comes in. George was consulted on the design of the 2018 model of the new design and well, it actually looks pretty damn neat.

They're calling it the PG-2 PlayStation Colorway and there is certainly an emphasis on the "color" portion of the name. I'll let Paul George explain some of the finer details of the shoe.
Working with designers from both Nike and PlayStation, we took inspiration from

Former Driveclub and MotorStorm Devs Form New Studio, Working on New Sci-Fi IP

Wushu Studios is a new independent game development studio that is made up of former members of Evolution Studios, BioWare, PlayStation, and more. Evolution Studios, if you recall, is the studio that brought the world the well received MotorStorm games along with the great looking Driveclub racing game for the PlayStation 4.

While a bulk of Evolution ended up at Codemasters, a few decided to do their own thing. Thus, Wushu Studios was born. The first order of business for the studio seems to be creating a new sci-fi game. And no, it's not going to be a racing game.
Founded in August 2017, the team is helmed by veteran AAA developers behind the popular MotorStorm and Driveclub franchises, as well as fresh talent
