Probably a temp poll question until I can bother to think of something better: So, how's it going?
Hell of a week, eh?

At least they aren't showing up when logged in. When logged in there are fewer ads that appear for users. Guests see more ads. Still... they shouldn't be showing up there for anyone. I'll have to go see what's up again with Google's "auto" ad placement and see if I can block that area from having ads appear at all because that looks really stupid.
I will also have to check out the one appearing above the "View all" button under recommended. It's supposed to maybe show an ad between those modules, not within them.
And as for paying for anything... Ads make so little for the site that it's been since July 2022 when I last hit the minimum payout threshold. It used to be more frequent, but since I stopped regular public video uploads after I stopped streaming, I lost monetization on YouTube so I don't have that to supplement how often I'd hit that minimum payout amount.
Edit: I just looked at adsense and I cannot see why they're doing what they're doing. In the preview, it shows an auto ad placed exactly where you showed. When I try to exclude it, it doesn't show up as a location to exclude.
I do miss your streaming, but at least I have your YouTube highlight clips to laugh with (the Max Payne dodge is just perfect). But no monetization either, aw DAMN IT!
And I stand by what I said earlier. These random oddly placed ads are inconsistent and only occasional, so it doesn't really interfere with my reading experience at all (I've been to a site where I had to scroll past a half-page ad to read the next paragraph of an article). Even now, there are no oddly placed ads signed in or out whatsoever. Currently I have only reasonably placed ads at the top above the TGN banner, the bottom between the Facebook link module and the Theme Selection/Help/Contact Us/Privacy/Go To Top module, the top right above the Recommended Module, the collapsible banner ad at the bottom of the webpage, and the Search Term ad above the banner ad (which can be closed without punishment). Nothing weird about any of that. And I don't even have an ad between the Recommended and Popular Tags module, and you've had that enabled as a possible location as you mentioned earlier.
(Note: The ad above the TGN banner is gone when signed in, so yes, I do get fewer ads when signed in as you would expect. I'm just listing all of them that I saw while signed out. When signed in, I get only most of the same ones I've listed.)
As a shot in the dark, I wonder if adaptive web design could make Adsense think it's placing the ad lower than we see it? Like maybe excluding a much lower area of the web page will resolve the ad under the headline oddity. It's a MAJOR stretch to think that since you're checking this on a maximized window. I also wonder if the scaling of web elements could throw Adsense's understanding of where it could place its ads. Again, another MAJOR stretch to think this way. I'm throwing ideas on a wall, but I can already see nothing is sticking.
As an opinion, I don't consider Area 88 to be an odd ad placement location. I wouldn't mind because the ads aren't big enough to force me to scroll up/down to use the dropdown list or the filter. I vote to enable that area for ads.
K-16 Yeah. Ad blockers and decreased traffic, on top of the lack of YouTube really screw up that whole "making money" thing. Also there are already a few additional ad spots when not logged in, as you've seen. I don't want to put obnoxious ads everywhere, especially for logged in users. It was even starting to annoy me a while back.
