As fans continue to ask for Kiwami 3, it won't be happening any time soon.

The team at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio shares some behind the scenes discussions from time to time. The latest episode of their Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio TV offered up some new information on the next Like a Dragon title. Series director Masayohi Yokoyama says that the studio will soon open up casting auditions for their next game. However, while the next game does not yet have a title it was revealed that the next game would not be Yakuza Kiwami 3.

In the latest episode, Yokoyama states (transcribed by GamesTalk) that while the next title is now Kiwami 3 he thinks he'll "do Kiwami 3 at some point."

I can't tell you what kind of audition it will be or what kind of new work it will be yet, but it's going to be announced soon, so if you want to apply, keep an eye out. To give you a little hint, it's similar to the live hostess audition in "7 Gaiden". In terms of the story, or rather, as an audition. The audition for the lead role class is not open to the public, so it is separate. We will hold an audition for the new work of "Ryu Ga Gotoku" that the general public can apply for. That's all I'll tell you today. The reason is that it's about time we got some information out.

It's funny, new work, and it's weird for me to say that. Maybe it's better to deny it properly because it's written too much, but it's not "Polar 3". I'll just say that I think I'll do "Polar 3" at some point. I think I'll definitely do it someday.
Further details on this new Like a Dragon title were not shared. It could be that the next title is a full-fledged sequel to the recently released Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It could also be another spin-off title akin to the also recently released Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. For all we know, it's entirely possible Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is working on a remake of Dead Souls before anything else. Could you imagine?
