There's more to Redfall than simply slaying vampires.
A group of humans with special abilities and guns faces off against a giant half-human monster with large bloody red hands.

If you thought that Redfall, the upcoming action title from Arkane Austin was purely about slaying vampires, you would be mistaken. Sure, there is a lot of that vampire slaying going on but there's also something a little extra going on. A little something that studios like to call "a story."

The latest trailer for Redfall shares with us information about the game's plot. That plot that seems to involve a company called Aevum Therapeutics and their "sinister experiments" that went and flipped an entire city into a bunch of vampires. Taking a page straight out of the Umbrella Corporation playbook, eh?

If for some reason that trailer wasn't enough information for you, Bethesda put up a special story focused blog post for Redfall today. A little bit of what they shared can be seen here.

There’s a lot more to the charming island of Redfall than meets the eye. Something spooky is happening in the town and the scientists at Aevum HQ have been working on something world-shattering. People are going missing; there’re dead bodies and blood everywhere; the sun has been eclipsed; and vampires rule the town. Were the vampires just an experiment gone horribly wrong or something far more disturbing? Who are the vampire gods? The only thing to know for sure is that everything is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
Redfall allows you to play on your own or together with up to three additional friends. Redfall is set to be released on Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC on May 2, 2023. Pre-orders are open now for your platform of choice.

Redfall is Arkane's Worst Game Ever
      by Shawn Zipay
It's also the worst "AAA" developed title in recent memory.

It was a struggle to finish Redfall. It was an absolute struggle thanks to performance issues, technical deficiencies, crashes, broken A.I., and uninspired quest design. It was the antithesis of fun and I pushed myself to complete the game out of pure spite.

Prior to playing Redfall, I saw Arkane as a studio that could do no wrong when it comes to their output. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic in 2006...

Bloomberg Reports on What Led to Redfall's Downfall
      by Shawn Zipay
Development so troubled that developers hoped it would just get cancelled.

It may come as no surprise to you to hear that the development of Redfall from Arkane Austin was plagued with issues at all levels. This includes a lack of oversight from Xbox management, staffing issues, and an ever changing design basis for the game itself. When Redfall launched last month, it was met with plenty of poor review scores from critics and players. It was filled with a myriad of technical bugs,...

Redfall Releases to Unfortunate Reviews, Glitches, and Performance Woes

Move over Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, your issues are old news.

Arkane Austin and Bethesda released their open-world vampire slaying game Redfall today and it's not great. I'll say it. It's not great. Still, if you are interested in finding out for yourself if it's good or not, you can presently play Redfall on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass.

In Redfall, you assume control over one of four vampire slayers as they try to rid the city of Redfall, Massachusetts from a bunch...

Redfall Receives Fourth and Final Update Today
      by Shawn Zipay
Offline mode is Arkane Austin's parting gift to players.

Arkane Austin may be no more, but they offer one last gift to fans today. Redfall received Game Update 4 today and with it comes an offline mode, a new "Community Standing" feature, revamped Elder Nests, and the ability to pause while playing solo.

Barring any catastrophic issues, this will presumably be the last update Redfall ever receives. Arkane Austin will not provide a full list of changes for the...
