GSC Game World say they have been dealing with cyberattacks for over a year now.

GSC Game World, the Ukrainian development studio currently working on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, say that they have been hacked by a group of Russians. The confirmation of this hack came just earlier today through Twitter, where GSC Game World explains what happened and that fans should be aware of content, ie: spoilers, being shared online ahead of the game's release.

GSC Game World also revealed in the same tweet that they have been dealing with regular cyberattacks for over the past year now. This obviously lines up with Russia's invasion of Ukraine which began in February 2022.

Recently, our employee's account for a collective work-with-images application was hacked. The responsibility for this was claimed by a community from a Russian social network. They are threatening to use the obtained data for blackmail and intimidation. This is not the first attempt to hack and leak our data, including personal information. We have been enduring constant cyberattacks for more than a year now. We have faced blackmail, acts of aggression, hacks, attempts to hurt players and fans, and efforts to damage the development process or the reputation of our company.

We are a Ukrainian company, and like most Ukrainians, we have experienced many things that are much more terrifying: destroyed houses, ruined lives, and the deaths of our loved ones. Attempts to blackmail or intimidate us are completely futile.

Our unwavering commitment to supporting our country remains unchanged we will continue to do everything possible to support Ukraine. And this won't change in the future under any circumstances.

Despite the attempts to break us, we remain strong and courageous. Because when you believe in something and love it with all your heart, you have to defend it at all costs.

We have been through a lot. However, these challenges only encourage us to work even harder because we believe that the truth is on our side. Evil will never win.

In the event of any leaks, we ask that you refrain from watching or distributing information about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Outdated and work-in-progress materials may dilute the impression of the final idea that we have put into the game. We encourage you to stay patient and wait for the official release for the best experience possible. We believe that you will love it.

We'd like to express our deepest appreciation for our loyal community. We are overwhelmed by the response and support we have received from you. Thank you for that. From each and every member of the GSC Game World team.

Our mission is to commit all of our strength and passion to complete the project and deliver it to you, despite all the obstacles on the way. Your support is our inspiration.

Glory to Ukraine.
Sincerely,
The GSC Game World team
Less than a day ago a group claimed to have hacked GSC Game World and issued the studio an ultimatum. I cannot verify any of the claims made in this supposed ultimatum. This is what was shared through r/GamingLeaksAndRumours on Reddit.

We have a huge amount of materials on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, including a full story, cutscenes description, various concept art, global maps and much more. The volume is calculated in tens of gigabytes.

We post part of it right away to show the authenticity of our words. Now back to business, we sincerely don't want to share all this before the release of the game, because this will probably mean a cancellation or postponement of the game - we don't want that, especially given some of the successes of Atomic Heart, which is severely disrespected in our group.

Therefore, we offer GSC Game World:

1) change your mind, rethink your attitude towards players from Belarus and Russia, apologize for the unworthy attitude towards ordinary players from these countries.
2) we suggest unbanning the NF Star profile in your official Discord - you banned me for nothing, because of this I had to stop holding back. 3) A separate issue is bringing back the RU-localization. Fans are waiting for it from your official company. Don't spoil the game for people because of politics.

Until the 15 March we are waiting for changes in the company's policy towards adequacy and acceptance of your own fans, no matter where they come from, as well as the return of RU-localization, if not by release, then at least in the form of an add-on.

the fact that we have not made all the material available to the public speaks of our friendly attitude towards you, after all your unfriendly actions. Please act appropriately and fix the situation. Don't let the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. die because of your politicization - stagnation is already felt very seriously, which means it's time to build relationships with the community.
Ah yes, a group of Russian hackers making demands of a Ukrainian studio to "rethink (their) attitude towards players from Belarus and Russia." Something tells me that GSC Game World probably won't show sympathy to a group that hacked their data; A group that hails from the same country that invaded theirs over a year back and has destroyed the lives of friends and family.

GSC Game World continues to work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl despite dealing with the hardships brought on by Russia's invasion of their country. The newest trailer for the game dropped just this past December. The team is still aiming for a release of the game for some point in 2023.
