11 months after being disabled, online functionality returns to Dark Souls.
Dark Souls: Remastered

In late January 2022, a major security exploit was discovered that existed across all Dark Souls titles. This exploit could allow for bad actors to remotely execute code on a victim's PC if they so desired. This could, in theory, give attackers full and unrestricted access to your machine. Prior to the release of Elden Ring, FromSoftware disabled the online functionality for all Dark Souls titles on PC while they worked on fixing the problem.

It took FromSoftware several months to get the first fixes out to the public. In August, the online servers for Dark Souls 3 were brought back online. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin returned to life in October. Now, Dark Souls: Remastered has finally had its online functionality restored.

Sadly, the same fate cannot be said about Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. This was the first release of Dark Souls on the PC. FromSoftware says that the online functionality for this game will never return.
