  • Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition Announced

This is called the definitive release of the classic 90s cult classic.
Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition

The "definitive release of the cult classic" 90's FPS, Rise of the Triad, will arrive in early 2023. Dubbed Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, this release will be remastered to run at 4K resolutions and 60FPS. It will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

This updated release of Rise of the Triad is built on Nightdive's KEX Engine. In addition to the resolution and framerate bumps, this release will also allow for an increased field-of-view, and will feature support for cloud saves, achievements, multiplayer support, "and much more."

In Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, players gear up with a five-person task force known as the H.U.N.T. (High-Risk United Nations Taskforce) to infiltrate a mysterious (and exceedingly dangerous) island full of maniacal cultists. With updated HUD and UI elements, players can enjoy the classic campaign *plus* restored cut content and a new, original story episode in the Rise of the Triad universe. Once they’ve blasted their way through the single-player campaign, players can grab a few pals and engage in some old-school multiplayer COMMbatt deathmatch with multiple modes!

Key Features of Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition:
    • Five playable characters
    • Guns, rocket launchers… and bats
    • Level editor with steam workshop support
    • Multiple multiplayer modes — including the first ever capture the flag mode
    • A classic for modern hardware — 4K/60, increased FOV, updated HUD and UI, original sprites and texture, modern resolutions, achievements, cloud saves, and more
    • A thrilling story that screams 90s at the top of its lungs
    • All original ROTT episodes and expansion packs plus
    • A new episode created by New Blood, Nightdive, and Apogee software veterans
    • Ability to play with 1995 or 2013 soundtracks + jukebox
    • Level after level of explosive single-player action

Everyone who played mid 90s shooters remembers this, as do I. Not with much reverence, though, because it wasn't anywhere near as fun as Doom, Herexen, Duke 3D etc, but not the worst. A solid Meh out of 10.

Triad Wars Beta Closing Down in January
    by Shawn Zipay
On January 20, 2016, Triad Wars will officially close up shop. Specifically, the beta for the game will come to an end. There game will not actually be released. What was Triad Wars? It was a weird online game that tasked you with trying to build up your own empire while attacking others in the same city area. It was like Sleeping Dogs but if Sleeping Dogs was a bad game.

But none of that really matters now because Square Enix and United Front Games are pulling the plug.
