Kingdom Hearts 4 was officially announced this morning by Square Enix.

You want to know how I found out? Well, I'm going to tell you anyway. It was a nice, lazy Sunday morning. There I was, lounging in my bed after having had a breakfast sandwich from Wendy's. They're like $1 each all through the month of April. Really good deal there. Anyway, I'm lounging in my bed while I had one of my favorite streamers being Chromecast to my TV. Shoutout to Elajjaz! He's busy doing PvP invasions in Elden Ring when he addresses a comment someone made in chat. They asked him if he saw the new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer. Like him, my immediate reaction upon hearing that was "no way."

Oh, very way. Chat linked him to the trailer, and he opened it up on stream. I was still expecting the video he was watching to end up being a joke that revealed itself partway into it. Nope, it was very real. They really just up and announced that Kingdom Hearts 4 is coming on a Sunday morning.

Anyway, Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently in development. While the announcement trailer, seen below, was running on Unreal Engine 4, it is being reported that it will be moving to Unreal Engine 5 "since it's an easy transition."

Here's a bunch more about the game and some other Kingdom Hearts related stuff coming. There are no release platforms yet, but I'm guessing PlayStation 5 and PC (probably via Epic Games Store) are happening. There is also no release date slated for Kingdom Hearts 4, but I'm going to guess it won't take 14 years to come out.

In the announcement trailer, Sora makes a triumphant return with an updated look at the beginning of an epic new storyline titled the “Lost Master Arc.” Beginning with Sora facing off in a boss battle against a giant enemy, players are introduced to the Quadratum, a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the KINGDOM HEARTS series. Fans will be excited to see the return of Sora’s well-known companions Donald and Goofy, in addition to the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new setting.

Fans can also look forward to KINGDOM HEARTS Missing-Link, an all-new game for iOS and Android devices, which allows players to embark on adventures from the realm of Scala ad Caelum into the real world. Players will be able to engage in exhilarating battles against the Heartless and discover a new, original story. A closed beta test is planned for 2022.

Additionally, the KINGDOM HEARTS team announced that the highly anticipated final chapter of KINGDOM HEARTS DARK ROAD will be released in August 2022 as a free update to the KINGDOM HEARTS Union χ Dark Road app.

SQUARE ENIX and Disney hosted the KINGDOM HEARTS 20th Anniversary event in Tokyo, Japan where together with fans, they celebrated the past 20 years of the beloved franchise and provided a first look at what’s to come next. The event also featured a live music performance, a showcase of stained-glass artworks and on-stage appearances from Series Director, Tetsuya Nomura, series’ composer, Yoko Shimomura, and other development members. Fans can enjoy photos from the event on the official social channels and look forward to a recording of the event which will be shared at a later date.

After Three Years, Square Enix Finally Remembered Kingdom Hearts Wasn't on Steam Yet
      by Shawn Zipay
Wow, Square really is serious about ditching platform exclusives.

The PC release of the Kingdom Hearts games happened way back in 2021. However, the PC release then did come with a catch and that catch was that it was exclusive to the Epic Games Store. Like many games that have come before and after it, many believed that it would be an Epic Games Store exclusive for a year at most.

That year turned to two, then two years became three years. Finally, after over a three-year...
