The latest PlayStation State of Play happened this afternoon, just as Sony promised. The roughly 20-minute-long State of Play focused on nothing besides Hogwarts Legacy, a new action-RPG set in the world of Harry Potter.

Today's State of Play showed players how they will get to live out their wizarding fantasies as a fifth-year student at Hogwarts. Some of the activities you will get to engage with are duels against other students, potion brewing, learning new spells, flying around on a broomstick, and just getting into trouble by exploring Hogwarts during your free time.

Of course, there is a lot more to do outside of classes. Players will also get to explore the grounds outside of Hogwarts. They will also get into some trouble in nearby towns.

Players are tasked with looking into a goblin rebellion that is being led by a goblin named Ranrok. Ranrok has formed an alliance with the Dark wizard Victor Rookwood. Both of these evil doers seem to pose a pretty big threat to the wizarding world.

Today's presentation reconfirmed the fact that the entire story takes place in the late 1800s. This means that everything in the game takes place long before the events of the Harry Potter books. While there may still be a few familiar faces, such as Nearly Headless Nick, most of the other cast of characters will be entirely new. There will still be a ton of locations that will be familiar to fans of the books and films.

We also got a look at other gameplay mechanics such as talent system. You will be able to build your character up in a way that suits your play style. Players will also be able to customize places like the Room of Requirement, tame magical creatures, customize the look and upgrades for their gear, and more.

More details can be seen in the full State of Play gameplay video, seen below, as well as on the PlayStation Blog. Hogwarts Legacy is slated to be released Holiday 2022. Also, despite it having a big showing today on the PlayStation State of Play, Hogwarts Legacy is a multi-platform title that will be out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC via unspecified storefronts.

I will also reiterate what I said in the previous news post about this concerning J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has made countless transphobic remarks over the past several years. Her latest transphobic remarks came just this past week on March 8 when the TERF went on yet another transphobic Twitter rant where she spoke out against a proposed Scottish Gender Recognition Reform Bill.

Though it has been said Rowling is not directly involved in Hogwarts Legacy, she will still be benefitting from the game financially.
