Rockstar Games has confirmed that a fan-made fix for GTA Online's long load times will be made official in an upcoming patch. In early March, a user going by the name of tostercx (aka t0st), said that they found a way to reduce the load times of GTA Online by up to 70%. Not only did they show that this fix worked, they released the fix to the public with the catch that it was merely a "proof of concept, not for casual use."

The short version of the fix is that the slow loading times were caused by a "single thread CPU bottleneck while starting up GTA Online." tostercx said that the fix "shouldn't take more than a day for a single dev to solve." A more detailed and far more technical in-depth analysis can be found here, if you're so inclined.

It may not have taken a mere week, but Rockstar did eventually confirm tostercx's findings. Furthermore, they say that an official fix is on the way! Here is a statement hat Rockstar released to PC Gamer.

"After a thorough investigation, we can confirm that player t0st did, in fact, reveal an aspect of the game code related to load times for the PC version of GTA Online that could be improved. As a result of these investigations, we have made some changes that will be implemented in a forthcoming title update."

Rockstar didn't say when the fix might become available, nor did it confirm t0st's estimation of a 70 percent reduction in load times. It did confirm that the company has been in touch with t0st, however, "and would like to thank him again for his efforts."
