The Life is Strange and Vampyr developers at Dontnod now have a little financial boost courtesy of the Chinese tech giant, Tencent. Tencent has acquired a minority stake in Dontnod, a company that was valued at roughly $41M (USD).
Dontnod says that these new funds from Tencent will help them create more games for more markets across all platforms. In particular, it seems as though this new business venture will allow Dontnod to break into Chinese gaming markets and mobile gaming.
This minority stake in Dontnod means that Tencent will have a presence on the Board of Directors at Dontnod, but will be unable to make any decisions on their own.
This move comes just days after Tencent purchased a majority stock in Don't Starve developer Klei Entertainment. Tencent also owns such companies like Riot Games and has majority shares in companies like Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, and more.
Dontnod will presumably begin to sell their titles through Tencent's own WeGame platform in addition to Steam. Though Steam is available in China it exists in a bit of a gray legal area in the region.
