NetEase moves from being a minority stakeholder in Quantic Dreams to outright owning them.
Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy

The Chinese gaming and tech giant not named Tencent is again making acquisitions. NetEase Games, a division of NetEase Inc., have acquired the French development studio Quantic Dream.

Quantic Dream is the studio led by David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière. The studio specializes in creating choice-based adventure games that can feature a number of diverging story paths. Some of their latest games include Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls. The studio is also working on a new game, Star Wars: Eclipse.

The monetary price that NetEase paid for Quantic Dream was not disclosed. This move for a full acquisition comes about three years after NetEase initially invested a minority stake in Quantic Dream.

Cage did provide a statement on this new acquisition to GamesBeat and their decision to sell.

"We had acquisition discussions on several occasions during the past 25 years, but as none guaranteed our editorial independence, we decided to pass on these opportunities and continue as an independent studio. Our industry is undergoing a profound mutation through a wave of acquisitions of studios and publishers. For studios, this represents a paradigm shift as our central position in the industry and our contribution to the value chain are now more correctly valued. Consequently, in the recent past, we received several offers meeting our expectations."
Quantic Dream will continue to operate independently.
