According to the Fortnite Status Twitter account, the patch that was released today for Fortnite will have a significant impact on the game's install size. Patch v14.40 will be a larger than normal update (27GB), but the team says that this is a necessary evil in order to shrink the overall game size down by 60GB!
Prior to this patch, the game was sitting at a chonky 90GB on PC. This patch will shrink the install size to a third of that, which is rather nuts to think about.
In addition, this update will lead to future updates that are smaller in size compared to normal. There will also be improved loading and performance as a result of today's update.
Today's update also kicked off the Fortnitemares event in Fortnite. This event runs from now through November 3 and offers some spookiness in to the game.
Shadow Midas and his reawakened Henchmen have reclaimed what was once The Agency. During Fortnitemares, you’ll follow in their phantom footsteps and haunt your adversaries on the Island.
After being eliminated in Solo, Duos, or Squads, return to battle as a Shadow for your shot at a Nitemare Royale. Join fellow Shadows to defeat survivors by using your otherworldly abilities, like possessing the body of vehicles…
