Will go F2P to coincide with Epic Games Store launch.
Later this Summer, Rocket League will launch on the Epic Games Store. At that time, two things are going to happen. First off, Rocket League will be pulled from Steam. The Steam version will still get updates and fixes alongside other versions of the game, but it will no longer be sold or "available" for new acquisitions through Steam. If you own the Steam version now, it will still be available for download.
Secondly, the next major change is that the game will be re-launched as a free-to-play title across all platforms. You would be hard pressed to find too many people that don't yet own the game through other giveaways across multiple platforms, but this is good news for those who wanted it and never picked it up. These two major changes go alongside the other change that was made earlier this year with developer Psyonix dropping support for macOS and Linux.
The launch on the Epic Games Store will include cross-platform play with all current versions of the game: Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. As noted, the Steam release will no longer be redeemable but will still be supported with updates.

If you have yet to pick up and try Rocket League, now would be the best time to do so. The game is now officially free to play across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This also means that Rocket League is no longer able to be added through Steam and is only available on PC through the Epic Games Store.
Bummer, right? I believe that those that paid for the game previously now have some bonus legacy content available to them? I'm not 100% sure of this...-

Psyonix, the studio behind one of 2015's biggest games, Rocket League, was just purchased by Epic Games. The acquisition is pretty much set in wet cement at this point, with the final crossing of the t's coming later this Spring.
Yes, this also means that Rocket League is leaving Steam and is now an Epic Games Store exclusive. Those are the long term plans. In the short term, nothing much will change at all. Psyonix gave a rundown of what they say will happen with the game in...-
