Family reveals he "spent a lifetime battling mood and personality disorders."
Night in the Woods

Alec Holowka passed away earlier in the day on August 31, 2019.

His passing was announced by his sister, Eileen Mary Holowka, who shared the news on Twitter a short time ago today.

Alec Holowka was one of the few team members that created Night in the Woods. He was a programmer, designer, and composer. Scott Benson, a co-creator for Night in the Woods has terminated his Twitter account after today's news. He had previously voiced his support of Holowka's victims and announced that he and the rest of the team are cutting off ties with Holowka.

This past week, Holowka was one of a number of game developers that were accused of sexual harassment and abuse. He was accused by Zoe Quinn, who claims Holowka had abused her both physically and mentally a number of years ago.

Quinn has closed her Twitter account today as a result of renewed harassment from people that are blaming her for Holowka's death.

Here is a bit of what Eileen Mary Holowka shared about her brother's passing today.

"Alec was a victim of abuse and he also spent a lifetime battling mood and personality disorders. I will not pretend that he was not also responsible for causing harm, but deep down he was a person who wanted only to offer people care and kindness. It took him a while to figure out how.

"Over the last few years, with therapy and medication, Alec became a new person -- the same person he'd always been but without any of the darkness. He was calm and happy, positive and loving. Obviously, change is a slow process and it wasn't perfect, but he was working towards rehabilitation and a better life."
She added that Alec had specifically wished the best for his accuser and others. She said to not "use our grief as an excuse to harass people."

After these remarks were made, Eileen was pushed to make her account private due to harassment.
