A new Layton title was released today but not for a platform you were expecting. Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy was released today in North America for Android and iOS devices. Interestingly, this release is out well ahead of the 3DS release of the game, which is slated for October. Those living in Japan also have the 3DS release to enjoy today if they choose.

The game is just $15.99 (USD) on both mobile platforms.
Mystery lovers, brace yourselves! A rich and robust console game at its beginnings, the new LAYTON SERIES title is now pocket-sized. Forget classic mobile gaming experiences or time-killer mini-games with no depth, and step into a fantastic, mystery adventure unseen on a smartphone. For the first time, your favorite console game is now available on your mobile device, with the greatest number of puzzles to solve of any game of the LAYTON SERIES. All console fans, do not worry, your favorite puzzle game will be on the way for the Nintendo 3DS™ family of systems too, as soon as October!

Players will join Katrielle Layton on a mysterious adventure through the heart of London as she becomes embroiled in a casual, comical, and quizzical quest. You’ll be whisked around London’s famous landmarks, solving case after unlikely case, discovering clues and unraveling mysteries. The extraordinary puzzle solving adventure features the largest collection of puzzles in the franchise to date. Mini-games and customization options for the Layton Detective Agency and Katrielle’s outfit can be unlocked as players advance in the story. With twelve intriguing cases, seven multi-millionaires, and one whopper of a conspiracy, the latest Layton installment will prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the truth IS stranger than fiction!

Bought! I love every one of the Layton games (except the Layton Brothers tacked-on game) and now so does my 9 year old son too :)

Let me know how it plays without a stylus (assuming you won't be using a stylus)? I'm interested but I only know of the first couple of games on my old DS, so I'm not sure if using my finger is going to be a good alternative.

My sons always lost my styluses (stylii?) so used my finger anyway. Works just fine, using a Galaxy S8.

They revamped the controls with the 3DS games, and hint coins for example are easier to pinpoint.

Nice. That's a nice relief to hear. I'll give it a go for myself later on since I just got it a little bit ago.

Aw, I loved the Layton Brothers game! I will admit though, the one and only time that the game doesn't hold your hand would be at the very end. And it is at that point, where the game deliberately breaks its own rules as a twist in gameplay, and THAT is the time where I felt that Layton Brothers gained its identity and rightful place in the Layton universe. Sadly, you only get to experience that awesome gameplay at the end, so I do understand if most would prefer to skip it completely.

Personally I want to see more adventures with Alfendi and Lucy in the future (I'll definitely happily play Lady Layton though), including finding out who the other brother is (preferably not as its own standalone spinoff, because we've had enough of that now, and I don't want this like a Marvel/DC movie universe where everybody gets their own TV show or movie). However, I want to see that sequel with more of that twist, and significantly less hand holding with a risk of an actual game over state. Because the story is fine, and the gameplay is GREAT (heck I imagine they were the inspiration for Ace Attorney's Dual Destinies 3D investigations). But dang it, its real potential so underused!

By the way, have any of you seen the animated movies? Are they any good? Been curious about them. And I don't mean the village.
