• New Ace Attorney Demo is Out Now Plus Prologue Video

A new demo for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice is now available to download through the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS. In addition, the 8-minute long animated prologue is also available to watch.
With the release of the demo today on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS, players can get a preview of the legal adventures that await them in the upcoming September 8 release. The free demo features a section from the game’s first courtroom clash between Phoenix Wright and his new adversary, royal priestess Rayfa, in the foreign Kingdom of Khura’in.

To celebrate the release of the demo today, Capcom has a new piece of evidence for Ace Attorney fans. An eight-minute, beautifully animated and fully voiced English language prologue video is available to watch today, offering a look at events that take place before the story of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice. In the prologue, the rumblings of a legal revolution begin to show face in the Kingdom of Khura’in. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual with Phoenix and friends taking on a zany trial back in the United States, when suddenly Phoenix receives a mysterious and startling phone call that draws him to the Kingdom of Khura’in.

Damn it... Play the demo, or play the end of Dual Destinies where Edgeworth is my opponent? I'm still trying to skip sleep to play Dual Destinies and Ace Attorney Investigations before Spirit of Justice hits. Crap now I might hold off on seeing Edgeworth's cameo and play this demo instead.

I don't know if this is true or not, since I haven't seen the Japanese version, but some fans are saying the prologue video is actually non-canonical, and Phoenix's reason on why he goes to Khura'in is less dramatic. And supposedly the case Phoenix was working on back in Japanifornia doesn't exist in the game.

Also, the Japanese fans had to reach a certain milestone of retweets for Capcom Unity before they were willing to release this video. Apparently we get it automatically if the Japanese succeeded (which they obviously did, since they're the largest fan base).

Now that I've seen the video, I should offer a bit of context to explain a certain scene.

The reason why Maya got attacked, was because the guy with the knife is actually a defense attorney. Said attorney mistakens Maya for Princess Rayfa and thinks she's the reason for all the executions and imprisoment of defense attorneys. Ahlbi was supposed to compliment Maya by saying she looks like the Princess, during her waterfall training. Unfortunately, the English version doesn't show the significance of what Ahlbi says.

I have to rely on translations but, on that score, I am very grateful to the people that did the English version of Ace Attorney Investigations 2, which was definitely a worthy entry. With this and Zero Escape finally being out, I'm enjoying the best series the DS ever had :) Just hope they also announce a Western Lady layton.
