For the first time since October 2015, the Xbox One was the best selling console in the United States. In case there is any question, the other months were occupied with the PlayStation 4 as the top seller in the US.

Microsoft issued a brief statement ahead of next week's NPD sales figures. They said that they are "honored that Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S." They go on to say that the hours that consumers spent using all Xbox products was up "18 percent" over the same period last year.

At last check, the PlayStation 4 continues to be the uncontested top selling console worldwide. Xbox One sales figures will undoubtedly continue to see a strong August due to the release of the Xbox One S model.
