We have just learned that Satoru Iwata, the President and CEO of Nintendo and CEO of Nintendo of America, has passed away. Iwata has helped to shape the lives of many by having worked on some of the world's most beloved gaming franchises. He helped create Balloon Fight, EarthBound, and Kirby. Iwata has also worked on and helped to shape the future of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.Iwata has missed a few notable trade shows these past couple of years due to ongoing health concerns and obligations. This evening's sad news comes directly from Nintendo (PDF; seen below as an image). Iwata was only 55 when he passed.
